bullet The 3rd Press Release: Exhibition of applications from candidate countries

An exhibition of information applications from the candidate countries will be opened as part of the conference. The Minister for the Information Society Dr Pavel Gantar will officially open the exhibition at 10:30 on Monday 3 June and lead ministers from EU member states and candidates around the exhibition.

Some of the most innovative and most promising applications in the field of e-government, the economy and civil society will be on display, including:
  • a Czech project on the provision and electronic exchange of health data, including the national health register, a pilot programme in tele-medicine and an electronic patient register;
  • a portal for civil society institutions in Hungary, including over 3000 links;
  • an e-minder project being run in Cyprus – originally an EU project aimed at facilitating e-commerce in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);
  • the Infovek project form Slovakia which presents the computerisation of their school system and includes training and the provision of a wide range of content;
  • Slovenia will present some Government Centre for Informatics projects (national e-government portal, the electronic cabinet meetings project and a digital signature verification project) and other projects from the economy and civil society such as: e-commerce solutions from the Health Insurance Institute, a system giving access to geodetic information, an e-school project, a distance-learning support system and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s activities in facilitating e-commerce.

The European Ministerial Conference on Information Society will be held in Ljubljana on 3 and 4 June. The conference is organised by the Ministry of the Information Society of the Republic of Slovenia and the European Commission (Information Society DG and Enlargement DG). The conference will witness the 13 candidate countries presenting and publishing the first report on progress achieved in the implementation of eEurope+ Action Plan, a programme for the development of information society in candidate countries. For the first time the candidate countries will report on the progress they have made in developing knowledge based economy, modernising public (electronic) services and bridging the digital divide.
